What does a production‑ready in‑camera VFX workflow look like without a game engine?

This three‑day workshop explores virtual production workflows using Chaos Arena as a real‑time, film‑oriented rendering solution. The focus is on bringing production‑ready 3D assets efficiently onto an LED stage, enabling lighting evaluation, on‑set iteration and creative decision‑making without the overhead of traditional game‑engine‑centric workflows.

The first day focuses on Chaos software demonstrations, workflow presentations and project showcases. The workshop then shifts into hands‑on virtual production at our hybrid studio, where participants spend two days planning, shooting and analyzing an in‑camera VFX scene using a Chaos Arena based workflow, from scene setup through post‑production review.

Instructors include Chaos Arena Product Specialist Ivo Slivkov (Chaos) and Project Specialist & VFX Supervisor Petteri Stavén (Oamk).

The workshop will be held 3–5 June 2026, with daily sessions from 9:00 to 16:00, at the Oamk Starts Lab hybrid studio, Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Linnanmaa campus).

The workshop is organized as part of the STARTS LAB Oulu project. STARTS LAB Oulu combines science, technology and the arts in our state‑of‑the‑art hybrid studio, which offers opportunities to develop and test immersive content, virtual sets, and digital twins. The studio features the latest AR and VR solutions, tools for virtual film production, and innovations in digital storytelling.
